Dr Suresh Kumar, MD, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, said four new patients with the omigron variant of Govit-19 reported in Delhi were asymptomatic and two of them were from the UK.

“Four new Omigron patients are asymptomatic; two are from the UK and the other two are close associates,” Dr Kumar told ANI.

Dr. Kumar said the Omigron patient, who arrived from Zimbabwe on December 2, was discharged today with mild symptoms such as mild throat discomfort and weakness.

“But he returned completely healthy after 10 days. Omigron patients had mild symptoms, a stable oxygen ratio and did not need an ICU,” he added.

Of the 38 patients admitted to the hospital with the disease, two or three more COVID-19 patients are due to be discharged on Tuesday, he said.

Giving an update on the number of dedicated COVID-19 beds in view of the new variant, he said, “Currently, we have 50 separate beds, which will be increased if required.”

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Tuesday identified four new cases of Govt-19 variant Omigran in the national capital, making the total number of cases in Delhi six.

The health minister said, “Four new Omigron cases have been detected, bringing the total number of cases to six.”

Giving an update on the health of Omigron positive patients, Mr Jain said, “Of the six patients, one patient has been discharged from the hospital, five others are still admitted and all are in stable condition. None is serious.”

The new variant of COVID-19 was first reported from South Africa to the World Health Organization (WHO) on November 25. According to the WHO, the first known B.1.1.529 infection was confirmed from a sample collected on November 9 this year. .

On November 26, the WHO named the new Covit-19 type B.1.1.529, first discovered in South Africa, ‘Omicron’. The WHO classifies Omicron as a ‘variant of anxiety’.
