About 80 sheep were crushed to death in a freight train near Koshiyara village in Jharkhand’s Palamu district today.
The incident happened when shepherds and a flock of their sheep crossed the railway tracks near Koshiara, but could not control the animals. Police said the animals ran in panic when they saw the approaching train, many of which were crushed under its wheels.
Hussainabad sub-divisional police officer Pujya Prakash confirmed the incident and said work was underway to remove the dead animals.
Upset by the incident, the grazing workers left the place with their remaining flocks, which contained some injured animals.
