A local administration in eastern China says eight miners were trapped in a coal mine and two bodies were evacuated after a gas explosion.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in Shangrao County, Jiangxi Province.
The Shangrao Government Information Office said in an online statement on Saturday that 10 miners were initially trapped in the privately run Yongji Coal Mine. It did not provide any details on the cause of the blast.
Official Xinhua News Agency Police are investigating the owner of the mine.
China’s mines are the worst in the world. There has been a dramatic drop in accidental deaths in recent years, as a result of somewhat improved security measures, but the volume of coal production has fallen as the sluggish economy has reduced demand.
