A Maharashtra priest poured petrol on himself and set fire to the church

Nashik:

When a priest tried to set himself on fire inside a church in Nashik, Maharashtra on Sunday, locals rescued him in a timely manner and rushed him to a nearby hospital, an official said.

He said the incident took place during a prayer session at St. Thomas Church in Shalimar Chowk.

“The priest, identified as Father Anand Apte, 61, tried to set himself on fire by pouring petrol on him. However, the fire was quickly extinguished by the occupants. He received 15 per cent burns and was being treated at the district hospital. He said he was being harassed by some of his elders,” the official said.
