Australia, who chased down 272 runs in the final session of the final day, negotiated a draw despite losing two opening wickets. India commanded in most Tests, but it was not enough to make a decision as the rain in the first two days significantly reduced the number of overs bowled.
Smriti Mandana won the man of the match award with his first Test century.
After the Test draw, Matthew Mott, the coach of the Australian women’s cricket team, praised the Mitali Raj-led team for keeping the pressure on throughout the match.
“We knew India would be a big challenge for us and we thought we could win the toss and hit happy times. The wicket was green. We had a great pace attack but we probably lost our target. They got off to a good start in the first hour. We felt like retreating, “ESPNcricinfo was quoted as saying.
“I thought India played well. Mandana’s innings were exceptional. But we were lagging behind in the rest of the matches, they grabbed all the wickets and they got the right to put us under pressure. And we didn’t really get back into the game,” he added.
