Australian police have sealed off the streets and warned the public after two people were shot dead Friday from New South Wales State Police headquarters in Sydney.
The Daily Telegraph reported that a man opened fire on the building and assaulted a police officer before being shot by police.
Australia has been on high alert for attacks by domestically raised Islamic extremists since last year. In December, police stormed a Central Sydney hotel to end a 17-hour siege and killed two hostages.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation said Friday’s shooting was not linked to terrorism.
