Blinkit suspends operations in areas where delivery is not possible within 10 minutes

Blinkit, an online delivery platform formerly known as Grofers, controls its operations in India. The company announced on Monday that it will only operate in areas where it can ensure product delivery to users within 10 minutes. Blinkit temporarily shuts down services in areas where deliveries cannot be made within the specified timeframe. Grofers recently renamed himself Blinkit. Swiggy’s Instamart, BigBasket, Dunzo and Zepto are the company’s main competitors in space.

Albinder Tindza, Founder and CEO of Blinkit, announced in a blog post the decision to suspend services in areas where fast deliveries are not possible. The Blinkit service is now only available in areas where the company can reach users’ locations within 10 minutes (or less).

“In the future, this call will have a significant impact on our business size and the large number of customers. We expect this to affect 75,000 of the 200,000 daily customers we serve,” Tindza said.

He said the company opens a new store every four hours and expects to serve all affected customers within four weeks. Users can update their exact location in the Blinkit app and see if they can currently serve.

Grofers, which began operating as an online grocery store in late 2013, renamed itself Blinkit last week. After raising more than $ 120 million (approximately Rs. 910.6 crore) as part of the online food distribution platform Zomato and existing investor Tiger Global Management, it recently reached unicorn status or $ 1 billion (approximately Rs. 7588 crore). Continued rise.

The company, which until now has been mainly focused on distributing groceries, is said to have more than 100 partner stores or warehouses in eight cities. In addition, it currently has 2,000 employees and handles over one million orders a week in 12 cities across India.
