The Coal India Limited (CIL) Board has approved a pre-feasibility study for setting up an aluminum project in Odisha.
Maharatna received key approval in December 2020 to enter the aluminum and solar energy sectors.
CIL’s Greenfield aluminum project in Odisha will include a bauxite mine, an aluminum refinery, and a captive power plant operated by Mahanadi Golffields Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.
Coal India is the largest dry fuel producer in the country with over 80 per cent supply of coal.
In its recently released agenda for 2021-22, the company plans to diversify into new sectors such as electric vehicles, charging pieces and other sunrise sectors.
The company said it was seeking the approval of the pre-feasibility study panel in filing the regulation.
