Hamid Shinwari posted on his official Facebook page on Monday that the new Interior Minister of the Taliban, Sirajuddin Haqqani, had been fired by his younger brother Anas Haqqani.
No reason was given for his dismissal, but he said Naseebullah Haqqani would be appointed to replace him.
A relative of the new Afghanistan Cricket Board chairman Sirajuddin Haqqani, the FBI sought an investigation into several high-profile attacks in Kabul during the Taliban’s 20-year war with US-backed governments.
The Taliban’s ban on women from playing sports – including cricket – has caused an international backlash. The Australian Cricket Board last week canceled a match against the Afghanistan cricket team in protest of a ban on women’s play in Afghanistan.
The official Facebook page of the Afghanistan Cricket Board also announced Naseebullah Haqqani as the new Managing Director.
