Farmers in UP give up struggle after compensation pledges

New Delhi:

Farmers in Lakhimpur Kerry, Uttar Pradesh, protested yesterday’s death and reached an understanding with the government and abandoned the struggle.

The government has promised compensation of Rs 45 lakh to the families of the deceased. The injured will get Rs 10 lakh compensation.

After a meeting with police this morning, the farmers agreed to cremate the bodies of four people who were allegedly hacked to death by a car carrying the son of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Misra. Four affected farmers were killed and several others were injured.

A murder case has been registered against Ajay Kumar Misra’s son Ashish Misra. The police assured the farmers that an inquiry would be held today based on the complaint lodged by the families of the deceased farmers.
