Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday accused the BJP-led central government of protecting Union Minister Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish in the Lakhimpur case. Launching the party’s 2022 UP election campaign from Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency, he said only BJP leaders and their “millionaire” friends were safe in the country.
Priyanka started her speech by inviting Goddess Durga at the party’s Kisan Nai rally. “I am fasting and will begin my speech with the praise of the flour,” he said. The Congress general secretary recited two slogans in Sanskrit and guided the people under the slogans ‘Jai Mata Di’.
Priyanka attacked the people on many fronts to start a “transaction” in the state by changing the government of Yogi Adityanath – from the peasant uprising to inflation and unemployment.
In this country, only two groups are safe – the BJP leaders and their millionaire friends. No one of any religion or caste is safe; Workers or boatmen, Dalits, minorities, the poor, women are not safe. In this country, the Prime Minister, his ministers, those in power and their millionaire friends are all protected, ”Priyanka said.
Accusing Ashish Misra of being protected by the BJP government, Priyanka said, “Last week, the son of Union Minister (Home) Ajay Misra cut off farmers with his vehicle. The families of all the victims said they wanted justice … You must have seen how busy the government was to protect the minister and his son. While the administration was busy blocking the opposition leaders, the police stopped me at night and placed the family members of the victims under house arrest. No policeman went to catch the accused. Instead, he was summoned by the police (for questioning).
“… and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (Yogi Adityanath) supports the Minister from a public forum,” he added.
Asked if Prime Minister Modi had not come to Lakhimpur to meet the families of the slain farmers, Priyanka Gandhi said: “The Prime Minister can go to every corner of the world. He can go to the United States and Japan. But he cannot go to the border. The Prime Minister came to Lucknow, but could not travel for two hours to visit the families of the farmers in Lakhimpur Kari, wiping away their tears and holding hands.
“The families of all the farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kerry are not confident that they will get justice … If anyone in this country faces atrocities, the government, the chief minister, the prime minister, the Moss home, the MLAs, where can justice be found? All have turned against the people hand in hand,” he asked.
He concluded his speech with ‘Jai Mata D’ and congratulated the people on Navratri. As the meeting began, Priyanka, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupathi Bagal and other Congress leaders chanted ‘Har Har Mahadev’. It is followed by reading some excerpts from the Quran and the Qur’an.
