The meeting follows the IMF’s announcement that Geoffrey Okamoto, the IMF’s first deputy director general (FDMD), will resign next year and be replaced by chief economist Geeta Gopinath.
Although Dr. Gopinath is scheduled to return to his academic status at Harvard University in January next year, he has decided to stay and accept the new post, the IMF said in a statement.
“In particular, FDMD will be at the forefront of monitoring and related policies, overseeing research and primary publications and helping to develop the highest standards for financial publications,” the statement said.
Dr. Gopinath will begin his new assignment on January 21, 2022.
