The Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) has reached its climax and, like most seasons, play-off venues are yet to be confirmed. Despite all three teams advancing, the battle for last place is ongoing and the Kolkata Knight Riders are currently in the best place to cut. But to be sure, Ein Morgan’s team will have to beat Rajasthan Royals in their last league match. Not only does a win put KKR at 14 points, it is very difficult to beat them as the Mumbai Indians have the highest run rate.
The Rajasthan Royals got a chance to make this a virtual knock-out, but they lost their chance after suffering a huge defeat against MI on their last trip. Sanju Samson’s team is facing a high order because the poor state of their net run rate after the last loss will not help them to qualify even for the biggest ratio win. But if they win, it will open the door for MI to win the last match and qualify.
Morgan’s men have a good run in the second half of the match and they should finish work on Thursday. Young Venkatesh Iyer holds the key to the top of the order with his explosive style. He should notice the dull road in Sharjah. The likes of Morgan and Dinesh Karthik should rise with the bat on this occasion. Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi will be the lynchpins in the middle overs, and the strong foundation of these men will enable Andre Russell to unleash big shots at the back end of the innings at Sunil Narile.
Aside from Narine’s batting, his spin on a tricky surface in Sharjah is KKR. Varun Chakraborty and Narine pair should keep the Rajasthan batting check better than the likes of Samson, Yashvi Jaiswal and Evin Lewis.
The Royals are reeling from poor batting performance against MI and KKR have the weapons they need to subdue them further.
The outcome of this match will not only determine the fate of these two teams but also give an idea of what the defending champions Mumbai Indians will do in the last round match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Play-offs.
