Jemima scored 49 before being dropped due to the first India-Australia WT20I rain

Germa Rodriguez hit 49 off 36 balls to drop the first women’s T20 international between India and Australia on Thursday.

India scored 165 in 15.2 overs for a quick clip to reach 131 for 4.

However, for the Indian team, their positive attitude towards batting gave Smriti Mandana (17 off 10 balls) and Shafali Verma (18 off 14 balls) an early start.

It was a rare opportunity for Australia to concede more than 50 runs in the Power Play overs as the Indian batsmen did not lose the tempo but saved Jemima and none of the other top-order players were able to change their start.

Jemima had seven fours in the innings and he was in Greece with Richa Ghosh (17 off 13 balls) for the stick at the break.

Shafali Verma started the match by slashing Tayla Vlemink for a six, while Smriti Mandana started at Sophie Molineux, with both adding 31 runs to the opening position. Mandana scored loft on drive and sweep shot.

Both were quickly eliminated and Captain Harmanpreet broke three boundaries in his short time, with Jemima coming to center-stage with some excellent shots off-side.

She started with a Molineux delivery off a sweep and then cut to left-arm spinner Ashley Gardner, while cracker Hannah Darlington, in her only over, was lifted between the two boundaries.

Jemima suffered a number of setbacks with recent defeats and also lost her first XI spot in the 50-over system.

However, in ‘The Hundred’, the 21-year-old Mumbai lost his contact for the Northern Super Chargers with 92 off 43 balls, 60 off 41 balls and 57 off 44 balls.

Once when Yastika Padia (15) faded, Richa came in and hit three fours by Tahliya McGrath to cross 130 runs.
