Kolkata Knight Riders have been fined for having a slow overrate during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Mumbai Indians at the Saeed Cricket Ground in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
The IPL statement said, “Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan has been fined Rs 24 lakh for being the team’s second offense under the IPL Code of Conduct for minimum over rate offenses.”
Each of the remaining members of the playing XI was fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their personal match fee.
In the match, Rahul Tripathi and Venkatesh Iyer fluently scored fifties to give KKR a seven-wicket win over defending champions Mumbai Indians.
Chasing 156, KKR, along with Tripathi (74 off 42 balls) and Iyer (53 off 30 balls) added 88 runs for the second wicket to take the home side in 15.1 overs. Jaspreet Bhumra gave up 43 runs in his four overs and took all three wickets for MI.
A few days ago, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was fined for maintaining a slow over rate by his team during the match against the Punjab Kings at the Dubai International Stadium.
According to the IPL official statement, “It was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct, and Samson was fined Rs 12 lakh.”
