Poolmati says she will never forget that video. People around my son are questioning when the 47-year-old broke down and bled and begged for mercy as guards were parked at their home in Jaipra village in Lakhimpur Gari district.
His son Shyam Sunder Nishat, 30, was the BJP’s ‘magic minister’ for the Singahi area of the district. In the video, Union Home Minister Ajay Misra’s son is investigating whether Nishad Theni (Misra) was sent by a group angry over the attack on protesting farmers in Dikunia on Sunday. They repeatedly ask if he was sent to “crash” on purpose, even though he pleaded not to.
Nishat was one of four people believed to have been killed in the violence that followed the Tikunia incident in which four farmers were crushed.
Poolmati says that the video reached them even before the news of Nishat’s death came. He had gone for party work. He was an active worker and went to a gold show in the village of MP (Misra). ”
Nishat’s father Balak Ram (52) is caring for his two daughters, one 3 and the other a seven-month-old infant. “The government has issued a check for Rs 45 lakh. But we need justice. Those who killed him, whoever they are, must take action,” says Balak Ram.
Among the other three killed by the angry farmers was Misra’s driver, Hari Om Misra, 27, of Barcera village. The family says he worked with Misra’s son Ashish for about five years.
Hari Om has two younger siblings, his mother Nisha and his father Radhe Shyam, who is mentally and physically handicapped.
Sister Maheshwari, 24, says Hari Om left for work two-three days ago. On Monday, his body came home and we collapsed. We do not know if anything happened to him. He was killed by peasants.
Nisha, 65, says she could not bear to see the body. What happened to him was brutal and inhumane. He was killed by monsters. Since Radhe Shyam was unable to work, the family relied on Hari Om’s income. They own a small piece of land.
