Anshu, 19, won the gold medal 1-0 at the break, but his rival, who won the gold in Rio 2016, pulled the Indians to a 2-1 lead.
Maroli was able to take the lead and extended his lead to 3-1 to twist Anshu and get another point.
The American then had Anshu on his back on the mat and gave the match to referee Maruli by the fall.
Before Anshu’s Friday, the Indian women won five bronze medals in the Marquee competition.
Alka Tomar (2006), Geeta Bogat (2012), Babita Bogat (2012), Pooja Danda (2018) and Vinesh Bogat (2019) each won one bronze.
In the 59kg category, Sarita Moore defeated Sweden’s Johanna Lindbork 8-2 in the bronze medal match.
