Pune: Amid confusion over guidelines, most colleges are unlikely to reopen on October 12

Although college and university students are expected to return to classrooms on Tuesday after a year and a half, confusion over guidelines and last-minute instructions could lead to delays in reopening physical classes.

Although the local Disaster Management Authority has announced that higher education institutions can start offline lectures from October 12, they will be closed due to lack of instructions to Savitribai Poole Pune University affiliated colleges.

SPPU pro-vice chancellor NS Umrani said the higher education department could not issue any instructions to the colleges from the university as it had not yet issued any order. The Disaster Management Authority has given permission but we have not yet received any instruction from the state higher education department. This will not only reopen the colleges, but also revise the Govt SOPs and provide them to the colleges … ”he said.
