Pune police are on a search operation to find the driver who escaped with a bag containing Rs 97 lakh in cash. His boss, a dry fruit merchant, was collecting money from his customers and returning it.
The first information report (FIR) in the case was registered against a 50-year-old businessman living at the Yerawada police station, who lives in Kondwa. The incident took place around 9pm on Monday night and an FIR was registered on Tuesday.
The complainant allegedly charged some of his customers and kept a bag in the back seat of the car. At around 9 pm, while they were in the Kalyani Nagar area, the complainant told the driver to stop the car as he wanted to go to the washroom. As soon as he got out of the vehicle, the driver ran fast.
An official from the Yerawada police station said the car was abandoned a short distance from where the complainant landed and the bag containing the money was missing.
