Herschelle Patel, the leading wicket-taker in the IPL this year, is on the verge of breaking the biggest record in the T20 league. The Royal Challengers Bangalore fast bowler has taken 30 wickets so far this season and has 3 more wickets to break the record of Dwayne Bravo who took the most wickets in a single edition of the IPL. Bravo took 32 wickets in 2013 while representing the Chennai Super Kings. Herschel will be in action on Monday during the RCB’s eliminator match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The winner of that match will face the Delhi Capitals, who lost in the first qualifying round on Sunday to the Delhi Super Gangs.
Harshal has already broken the record for most wickets taken by an Indian in an IPL season. He surpassed Jaspreet Bhumra, who took three wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2020 and 27 wickets in the Rich League.
In the current edition Herschel is setting the record. He also holds the record for not taking more wickets in a season.
Herschel, who plays his domestic cricket for Haryana, is all set to finish the season with the Purple Cap. He has taken seven more wickets than Aveshkan (23 wickets) who is currently second in the Purple Cape race.
Many fans in India have called for him to be included in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman from October 17 to November 14.
Herschel was not included in the 15-man squad named by India last month and was not included in the three players in the reserve.
