The Pune Metro will soon have its first train built by an Italian company


The Pune Metro will soon carry its first private train carrying nearly 1,000 passengers, with the Metro train cargo from the Italian-based Tidagar Firema to Mumbai port.

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has placed an order for 34 Metro trains for the Pune Metro with an Italian company. There are three compartments on each train.

The company manufactures some trains at its factory in Italy and the rest will be manufactured in Kolkata. The first train with three compartments has arrived at the port in Mumbai. It will be loaded on lorries and brought to Pune by road.

“The world-class metro trains for the Pune Metro Rail are state-of-the-art technology, lightweight and energy saving,” said Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director, Maha-Metro.

The test runs in the Pune metro city were taken from the Nagpur Metro train and are also being developed by Maha-Metro.

The train is made of aluminum and does not require much maintenance. Each coach is 29 meters long, 11.30 meters high and 2.9 meters wide.

The capacity of each coach is 320 passengers and the total capacity of the train is 970. Each coach has a seating capacity of 44 and the rest are standing passengers. The trainer can run at a speed of 90 km per hour. Each train will have a coach for female passengers and at least two passengers in a wheelchair.

The train will have world-class facilities including air conditioning, CCTV, panic buttons, emergency doors, public address systems and audio-visual systems that indicate the opening and closing of doors.
