Venkatesh Iyer’s aggressive knock indicates KKR wants to play serious cricket brand: Morgan

Praising debutant Venkatesh Iyer, captain Eoin Morgan said the Madhya Pradesh player was unbeaten against Royal Challengers Bangalore, signifying the “aggressive” brand that the Kolkata Knight Riders want to play for.

After knocking out RCB for 92, openers Iyer (41 not out) and Schubman Gill (48) helped KKR win by 9 wickets with 10 overs to spare.

“Vengi, I think the way he came and played was great. Of course, the brand of cricket we want to play. We have a lot of talent within our team,” Morgan told a post-match press conference.

“Playing Brendan McCullum (the way) is the aggressive nature we want to play.

“Although he was very aggressive, he was able to play with strict control throughout the innings and it was nice to see his opening partnership with Schubmann Gill,” he added.

Swashbucking all-rounder Andre Russell came in third and asked if this would happen often, Morgan said, “No, I think it’s open to explanation.”

“I think the way we played today and the level we see and the run-chase really had a chance to really affect our run-rate level, so Russell (Russell) raises the order,” he explained. .

Despite the big win, Morgan admitted that capturing the last four places would be a challenge for his team as he is currently fifth with six points from eight games.

“There is no doubt that this will be a challenge, but our main goal is to play cricket as we did today. If we do that, I think we will have a better chance of progress,” said the England limited-overs captain.

“This is something the owner has done before and was able to win the championship, so we get confidence from that, but from the ball and the bat and our performance on the field today.

“Moving forward, if we continue to play that way, it will turn us into a dangerous side,” Morgan signed.
